Introduction
The incumbent will be responsible for the management and development of the cryopreservation laboratory and related services, for the management and development of novel products laboratory and related services, and other laboratory production processes required to support the development and/or adoption of cellular therapies in South Africa. To be responsible for the management and accreditation of the cryopreservation laboratory, the production laboratory and related services. To develop enabling technologies with the necessary training, mentorship and support programs. In addition, the development of people including to recognised certification levels to run the cellular therapy and novel products laboratories.

Minimum requirements

Education:
  • PhD in cell biology or stem cell biology or tissue engineering or a related discipline, OR MBCHB, FCP Haematopathology / equivalent
Experience:
  • Clinical management of haematopoietic stem cell transplantation and the management of related laboratory teams, including but not limited to cryopreservation and flow cytometry
  • Experience in the growth and culture of human cells.
  • Experience in quality systems implementation and relevant accreditations, including but not limited to those related to cGLP, cGMP and GCTP (Good Gene, Cellular, and Tissue-based
products Manufacturing Practice).
  • Experience in the establishment of new laboratories
  • Management and development of a laboratory team
Other (knowledge and skills):
  • Previous experience in a large organisation and working with multiple departments will be beneficial.
  • Participation in relevant professional societies.
  • Understanding of programmes, procedures and policies relating to cellular therapies.
  • International practices and benchmarking.
  • Computer literacy: MS Office, SAP, Laboratory information systems.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Strong business acumen.
